BOOKS ON THE SIDE | BOOK REVIEWS | QUESTION of the MONTH |
Briefly: Each third Tuesday of the month, NovelReaders members share our love for reading, and insights about our current book selection. Alright, we admit it... We don't explore a book's every nuance of style and rhetoric, theme and symbolism, meaning, vision, writing style and character the whole night! We also talk (a lot) about other STUFF, unrelated to novels. We hope this website will incorporate those discussions as we grow. In the meantime, it's another way for us all to stay connected while we wander through the world of books.

The Story of NovelReaders.com
Once upon a time, there were five women who were in a "play group" together with their youngsters. These women shared many experiences adoring, nurturing, and loving their children. In the process, they discovered a common passion for reading books. Eventually, (which was sometime after they abandoned play group because their kids were too darn busy) they thought: why not do something really novel, embark on a new theme, start a new chapter ... as in, share a monthly ADULT adventure? Voila: Book Club is born!
We began as a relatively small group lo these many years ago (12 years, to be exact!). Included in our ranks were two who soon drifted onward, plus Trudy (who had the audacity to move away), Terri T. (still among us and chief recorder of our history), Janet (aye!), Suzie (an instigator from way back), and Amy (not an original play grouper, but ... what the heck! She's fun! Sadly, Amy moved eastward and is now a cyberspace book junkie with us).
Over the years, we've introduced some exciting new characters ... er, members. Our group now includes Robin, Diane, Martha, Terri Mc., Deb, Stacie, Nora and Wendy. In this monthly group, we meet as teachers and writers, realtors, tennis aces, antiquers, travelers, history buffs and internet surfers, Democrats and Republicans (we aren't afraid to discuss these things!), gardeners and outdoor wannabes, marketing wizards and volunteers of many things, as well as moms who excel in a wide variety of family situations. We're everything from contentious to sympathetic. We read classics and historical fiction, mystery/thrillers and spiritual works, good fiction and (darn it) bad. As a general rule, we don't do westerns, romance, how-to's, or self-helpers. Our diversity has been our hallmark; our camaraderie our glue.
Our ranks continue to grow online! We've roped in pals from five other states and Europe. It would be fabulous if we could all meet monthly, but distance poses problems. Thus, www.NovelReaders.com! As a result, Trudy is back among us. We're elated to reconnect in book land (who would have predicted we'd use the internet when she left?), and Amy continues to keep in touch. Others who join us online are good friends, fun family, interested bystanders ... anyone who loves to read and enjoys discussing the book afterwards! These women are moms and grandmas, genealogists and secretaries, beach lovers and PR pros, crafters, musicians, and former nurses, to name just a few (of many) reference points.
If you have an interest in posting your own opinions on book clubs, authors and their works, recipes, & whatever else turns your page, feel free to email webmaster@novelreaders.com. We'll publish what we can, reserving the right not to publish whatever we deem unfit for our little patch of cyberspace.
Enough surfing! Go get a book and read!
